Haemorrhoids (Piles)

Haemorrhoids are common and can be very troublesome and embarrassing for patients. They can cause all sorts of symptoms from pain and bleeding, to itching and mucous discharge. Unfortunately, these symptoms can also arise from colorectal cancers or polyps and so until a patient is properly investigated, it is not possible to say with confidence that they do not have colorectal cancer or polyps. After performing either a partial or full examination of the bowel (symptom dependent), Dr. Raza can determine the cause of the bleeding and often treat it at the same time.

In fact, around 50% of the time, simple procedures that can be performed in the examination room and without anaesthetic will treat many of the symptoms of haemorrhoids. If the haemorrhoids are large or do not settle with less invasive management, Dr. Raza is fully trained in the minimally invasive method of HALO with sutured haemorrhoidopexy. The traditional open haemorrhoidectomy can be performed too if patients so choose. Both HALO and open haemorrhoidectomy require a general/spinal anaesthetic but can often be performed as day case procedures.

Dr. Raza is happy to discuss your individual problem and the full range of management options that can be made available.
